As you arrive you attend a short induction session to our standard operating practices are in terms of ecological imprint and safety regulations.
You will do a meet&greet with other residents or local artists.
You will do a final show&tell at the end of your stay, presenting your work progress.

We have two darkrooms set up for you to go into deep focus but also to share knowledge and experiences with the other resident artists. The darkrooms can be rented or be part of a program in an artist in residency call. Björkö Darkrooms also facilitates courses from introductory to master level from photography to darkroom techniques. The set up is basic but you can create magic, just think of the work process of photographers like Aaron Siskind or Lisette Mode who's workflow was in a rather simple but well organized environment. Our library offers an opportunity to take part in such a photographer's workflow.
Our facilities and location is perfect if you strive for excelling your practice towards darkroom magic. Ie our set up is not for speed and bulk work but rather an atmosphere where you have a good sense of attention towards your practice. You are embedded in an international artist residency setting. with at least one more darkroom practitioner for exchange and learning. We honor experimental and traditional practices ranging from exploring early photographic techniques to more efficient fine art methods including ecological approaches (soil and plant based, caffenol etc).
As you arrive you attend a short induction session and learn about how standard operating practices are in terms of ecological imprint and safety regulations. In addition a “meet and greet” (in-house artist presentation with other residency artists + dinne) in the beginning of the project and towards the end a “show and tell” a public dissemination of the work. In addition we are happy to do a short video about the darkroom work of the selected artist, promote the artist in our social media channels and select newsletters. An additional week can be added where the studio becomes an exhibition space. The studio is 76 sqm and is on the same floor in the building as the dark room. Other spaces such as the kitchen is shared with other artists. In addition the “light room” can be used for joint activities with other artists. On the premises we also have a mini 4k camera kit (video, light and sound) for self documentation.
