2023 – CYAN /Oslo

Ingrid Jacobsen

During my artist residency at Cyan Darkroom I worked on one project where I experimented with the collage as form and made new collages, both as photograms with 1: 1 negatives (digital) and putting layers of negatives through the enlarger. I was using digital negatives which I printed before the arrival. I was interested in working with distortion of perception by setting together different rooms and images with differences in scale and time and layer them together into one scene, almost like a long strip of a film negative.

During my stay I planned and arranged the different negatives making them into collages that I then used and made print of in the darkroom. I also for the first time tried to make big photograms hand printed in black and white which was possible at the cyan darkroom and for the first time developing the images in tubes. This experience was challenging and at the same time exciting and fun. The experience of working with the body in the darkroom and that the process became more physical. This method I have still continued to experiment with and find new methods in the darkroom and finding ways to materialise the photographic image.

Ingrid Jacobsen (b.1996) is a Swedish/ Norwegian artist who lives between Malmö and Copenhagen. She is currently pursuing her master in fine art at Malmö Art Academy this year and holds an BA from Hdk-Valand in photography (2022). In her practice she is interested in the spaces in between and the different layers of our lives. She works with collage and montage in an experimental form where light, randomness, and the accidental also play a co-creative role in the darkroom. The collage creates abstractions and images between realities, where layers of space and time overlap. She works within an analog photography tradition, addressing spatial issues through a cut-up technique, thus challenging traditional photography. She recently had a solo show at Alta Art Space in Malmö and earlier exhibited in different groupshows among them at Liljevalchs spring salon.
